In a post last week we put it out there: What are the freshest, go-to sources for art news and inspiration on the Web (except of course, for Inside Art and Streamline’s sister publications 🙂 ?
A bunch of you wrote in and I’m thrilled to share all the cool and (some) new-to-me stuff folks are looking at to get inspired online.
1. Daily Art Magazine
https://www.dailyartmagazine.com
Art history nerds rejoice! This is a breezy art history site with a flashy spin for the general reader. It’s a mishmash of interesting articles, short and long, mostly on the intersection of popular culture and historical art (e.g. “All the Paintings in the Harry Potter Series” a recent headline. Fun section called “WTF Art History.”
‘Also – quizzes!
2. The Collector
This site describes itself as “A Collection of Great Stories that Teach, Inform, and Inspire Millions of Readers Exclusively Authored by Academics. Trusted by Scholars, Classrooms, and Enthusiasts.”
3. Art & Object
This is the go-to site for up-to-the-minute news about current shows as well as historical and contemporary art and trends. It’s not a great guide to the must-see shows and where to see them – it’s too random for that. But it’s awesome for getting a sense of “what’s going on” in front of and behind the scenes of the work-a-day world of art and museums in the U.S. and abroad.
4. CULTURED
This one’s all about the Big Art World Stuff – Art Basel, the Venice Biennale, ‘Blue Chip’ artists and galleries, celebrities, up and comers, and big time international private collectors.
5. Muddy Colors
Ten years online! This artist runs a fun, down to earth site with thoughtful articles and informative videops. The education section is particularly worth a visit now and again.
6. ColorLex
The “Lex” in the title stands for “lexicon,” which means a vocabulary, in this case a visual one. It’s full of fascinating information on art and artists gleaned from pigment analysis.
7. BOMB
Personal grudge against these guys because they’ve steadfastly refused to publish anything I’ve ever sent them. That aside, they ARE the slick cutting edge.
- Titus Meeuws – Artist with a live show on YouTube every Friday evening (Europe) One reader says, “He’s predominantly water colour and I’m oil but he makes wonderful videos that are slow and calm and I look forward to it every week.”
- The Undraped Artist – PODCAST
Artist Jeff Hein interviews some of the world’s most accomplished and gifted artists about their work, process, philosophy and experience. New episodes every Monday.
That’s all folks – and that’s a LOT! Thank you so much for reading and sharing your creative journey.
