Welcome back to your Acrylic Live highlights! On Day 2 this year, we saw more full-length watercolor painting demonstrations with Colette Pitcher, Charlie Easton, Chantel Barber, Carla Bosch, Aimee Erickson, and more, including sessions with our sponsors and more giveaways.

It’s incredible to watch each painting come to life throughout the day, including the works that attendees (you!) share with us while you paint along!

“I have done a lot of acrylic art and the information presented in the first two days has been amazing. I have watched the presentations and will put the lessons to work next week. I have learned many new techniques and the use of new materials.” ~ Evelyn Y.

Day 2 Acrylic Live Highlights

From Colette Pitcher's animal painting demo

From Colette Pitcher’s animal painting demo; Here, she is pointing out elements from her photo reference while choosing her colors. She notes, “This is a white dog, but is it white? Absolutely not.”

Charlie Easton “played hooky” from his role as co-host of Acrylic Live to give us his demonstration while painting en plein air. We joined him for the car ride to a location that he was still to determine, since plein air painting involves so many unknowns. While driving along, he explained that he’ll make decisions on the size, shape, subject, and everything else, once he found a place and got set up in “this beautiful world.”

From Chantel Barber’s portrait demo

From using different textures in passages to applying paint with brushes and blades, Chantel Barber led an impressionist portrait demo full of emotion. “I really like to have a contrast between both thick and thin paint passages,” said Chantel. “It gives a lot of dimension to a piece.”

“I am learning so much! Have wanted to try portraits and have been afraid but this process of layering is making so much sense.” ~ Dede M.

From Carla Bosch's landscape demo

Carla Bosch puts the final touch on her acrylic landscape painting: her signature. She says to always sign your work in the same space when possible (for her, it’s the lower left corner), to add to the overall style of your art.

Carla Bosch’s love of color began in South Africa, where she was inspired by bold impressionist paintings. She started her demo with a toned surface, using charcoal to establish the early compositional lines.

Known for her engaging style and versatility in subject matter, Aimee Erickson led a demo of an interior coffee shop scene with a couple seated in front of a window. Aimee currently lives in Portland, Oregon, where you can almost always find her with a sketchbook in hand.
